This Privacy Policy explains how Kontinental ("Kontinental," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and shares information when you use the Kontinental mobile application (the "App"). Kontinental is a travel-journaling and social app that helps you build a map of the places you have visited, share your journeys, and discover where your friends have traveled.

By using the App, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

1. Information We Collect

We collect the following categories of information, all of which are associated with your account:

Account & contact information	Your email address (used to sign in via a one-time code), and the display name, username, and profile photo you choose.	To create and secure your account and show your profile to you and to other users.
Precise location	GPS location while you use the App, and low-power "arrival" detection that notices when you reach a new place. Locations are associated with the places and trips on your map.	To place you on your map, detect newly visited places, and let you record and share where you have been. We do not track your location continuously in the background.
Photos & videos	Photos and videos you choose to add, and the location and date metadata attached to them, which we use to build your travel history.	To display your travel history on a map and to create the posts and recaps you share.
Contacts (optional)	If you choose to use the "Find Friends" feature, we read the email addresses in your device address book and send them to our server to check which of your contacts already use Kontinental.	To help you find friends who are already on the App. This is optional and only happens if you grant contacts permission. We do not use your contacts to send marketing, and we do not store your address book.
User content	The places, trips, posts, comments, likes, bucket-list items, and other content you create in the App.	To operate the App's core features and to display your content to you and, where you choose, to other users.
Usage & device data	How you interact with the App (screens viewed, features used, session information), your app version, and a device identifier.	To understand how the App is used, fix problems, and improve features. This data is used only by us — it is not shared with advertisers or data brokers.

Performance and crash diagnostics generated on your device (via Apple's MetricKit) are used locally by the App and, if you are a beta tester, may be shared with us by Apple through TestFlight in accordance with Apple's terms.

2. How We Use Your Information

To provide, maintain, and improve the App and its features;
To build your personal travel map and generate your posts and recaps;
To enable social features such as following, comments, likes, and discovery;
To send you notifications you have enabled (such as activity on your content);
To understand usage and diagnose problems;
To protect the security and integrity of the App and to comply with law.

3. Public and Shared Content

Kontinental is a social app. Your profile and the content you choose to make public — such as your public posts, places, and travel statistics — can be viewed by other users of the App. Please consider what you choose to share publicly. Content you keep private is not shown to other users.

4. How We Share Information

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers. We share information only:

With other users, according to your sharing choices (see Public and Shared Content above);
With service providers who operate our infrastructure on our behalf — in particular Supabase, which hosts our database, authentication, and file storage, and Apple, which provides push notifications and app distribution;
For legal reasons, if required by law or to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users or the App.

5. Data Retention

We retain your information for as long as your account is active. If you delete specific content, it is removed from your account. If you delete your account, we delete the personal information associated with it, except where we are required to retain it by law. To request deletion, use the in-app account-deletion option (where available) or contact us using the details below.

6. Your Rights and Choices

Permissions: You control location, photos, contacts, and notification access through your device settings, and you can change them at any time.
Access & deletion: You may request a copy of your personal information or ask us to delete it by contacting us.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR or CCPA, including the right to access, correct, or delete your information and to object to certain processing.

7. Children

Kontinental is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take steps to delete it.

8. Security

We use industry-standard measures, including encryption in transit, to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. International Users

Your information may be processed and stored on servers operated by our service providers, which may be located outside your country of residence. By using the App you consent to this transfer and processing.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you within the App.
